The Eighth Dr. Richard Seyfarth Schreiber Memorial Conference

Daniel Kuhn, director of the Professional Training Institute with the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, and author of Alzheimer’s Early Stages: First steps for family, friends & caregivers, will deliver the keynote address at the eighth Dr. Richard Seyfarth Schreiber Memorial Conference on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. The conference will be held from 8:30 am - 4 pm at the Bernhard Center on the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Registration/Maintain Your Brain breakfast begins at 7:30 am.
Conference sessions will be led by professionals in the dementia care field and will highlight the unique issues that professional and family caregivers face. In addition to Kuhn’s keynote session, the conference will include presentations on relationships and intimacy; best practices in dementia care; and the latest advances in Alzheimer research and treatment options.
Prior to the conference on May 13, the Alzheimer’s Association will host a pre-conference workshop on May 12 — Foundations of Dementia Care. This workshop, designed for direct care staff and supervisors in residential care settings, will offer training on reducing the risk of falls, understanding wandering, and restraint-free care.
The registration deadline for both the conference and the pre-conference workshop is May 1, 2008. The registration fee for the conference, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch, is $115; the fee for students (valid student ID required) and people with Alzheimer's and their family members is $75 per person. The registration fee for the pre-conference workshop is $115, which includes six CEUs. Early bird discounts are available to those registering by April 14. The Jeffrey Porch in association with Delirium Films is excited to partner with the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter for a night at the movies. Join us for a sneak preview of the nationally acclaimed movie, You Are Here. After the show hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served at a reception with the screenwriter and executive producer, Tim Jeffrey.
Doors open at 6:30 pm and the movie will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available by calling the Alzheimer’s Association at 269.342.1482. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door. Minimum donation $5.00.
